SMS smelters Limited came into beginning in 2005 in North-East region for manufacturer Industrial Grade Specialty Ferro Silicon by SMS Smelters Limited, Shree Salasar Industries Pvt Ltd. and Platinum Alloys Pvt Ltd an ISO 9001-2015 certified Companies, providing total solutions for ferrous applications. The Group’s modern manufacturing facility and the use of advanced technology in the field of specialty alloys have set high standards for the industry. Currently the largest manufacturer of Ferro Silicon in India with customers in all parts of India, South Korea, Australia, China and Europe. Platinum alloys pvt ltd is in Tippi, Arunachal Pradesh and has 2x9MVA furnaces and with a capacity of 15000MT per annum. The sub merged arc furnaces along with the Raw Material feeding system have been designed by RgCON Vishakhapatnam(Andhra Pradesh) which were commissioned in the year 2011 and the plant is in operation till date with fabulous results. The pollution control system was supplied by Kleenair Systems Pvt Ltd which was also commissioned in 2011 and is in continuous operation. 70% grade FeSi is highly power intensive. Hence, the FeSi plants are very viable where at competitive cost is available and Arunachal Pradesh which is considered the future Power House of India with mega hydel power plants lined up for commissioning.

Commercial grade Ferrosilicon (FeSi) is of 70% Si Minimum and it is manufactured in Submerged Arc Furnaces where Silica from Quartz is reduced to Silicon with suitable carbonaceous materials at a temperature of 1800 deg C.
Iron in the form of mill scale is added to the furnace to maintain the required percentage of silicon in the finished product. It is generally supplied to all consumers in the form of lumps in the size range of 10 t0 150mm. We are one of the very few producers who supply 10mm – 70 mm size in the industry. The majority of Ferrosilicon consumption is in steel industry as deoxidizer. Apart from that FeSi is used in auto industry for manufacturing various auto components. It is also used for manufacturing special steel which is required in transformers. FeSi has an important role to play in the manufacturing of some other special alloys like FeSiMg, Magnesium metal and a few more value added ferroalloys.
